The Khao Kheow Open Zoo was established in 1974 with area of about 200 acres in Khao Yai National Park due to the increasing number of animals in the Dusit Zoo. In 1978, the zoo was opened to the public. In 1984, zoological park organisation allowed on expansion the area to about 1000 acres for wildlife conservation in the Khao Yai Mountain area. Princess Sirindhorn also gave tremendous support to rescue injured animals and wildlife in this project. I stand against animal abuse which this zoo practices on its poor animals such as their elephants who have their ears pulled amongst other practices to perform in their elephant swimming show.
Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi Thailand are forcing their Elephants to swim under water as an entertainment display for paying tourists.
We were at the zoo 4 years ago when it was only golf carts and what a difference.. jam packed with cars some of the parts were so busy you couldn’t even park a golf cart so we missed a few bits..need about 4 hrs to get around. . Golf carts are 500 baht for 2 hrs you need hand in your driving licence.. loadsa cheeky monkeys who will steal food out your hand . Lots to see . The only real bit I didnt like is the elephants who are chained. But all in all a decent must see zoo and definitely don’t miss the orangutans if you can manage the stairs .one we saw was in viewing point drinking a bottle of fizzy orange
My boyfriend and I (young adults) had a great time at this zoo. There is heaps to see! We spent hours looking at all of the different animals. It is a huge zoo so I would definitely recommend hiring a buggy. If you are in Pattaya this is defiantly a place worth visiting!
Not being a great fan of zoos as an animal lover, but then appreciating the role the zoos sometimes have in maintaining the breeds. In principle, this was quite a niece zoo as the area covered is so wide. But, the area for some animals is saddening lying small, like the leopards.it’s a nice idea that you can feed the animals
This is the worst zoo I have ever visited. The animals seem sick, drugged, and unhappy. The enclosures are tiny and the animals do not have enough room. We visited here after doing a zip lining course, The Flying Gibbon which was wonderful. The way the animals are being treated is not, it’s disgraceful. It was terrible to see the elephants all wrapped in chains not free to move about in a small enclosure. I honestly don’t know why anyone would treat an animal like that. Please do not give them business, as this will allow them to continue the mistreatment of animals.
There are many animals in the large fresh air area near Bangkok with the helpful staff. You need about full day, if you want to see all the area. I like penguins' parade. The tickets is reasonable price.
